Marco Polo is an async video chat app that keeps friends with different schedules and locations close. My friends and I use it daily, and frequently feel frustrated looking for messages. I decided to design a solution!
⬤ Marco Polo team,
What’s mine is yours. Also, I am available for hire. * wink *
“When was I talking about...”
“Where is that Polo!?”
“$*@&!”

Potential Solutions
The best ideas came straight from users
“I wish I could search for videos like I do in my Photos app”
“It would be great to organize my videos with tags and folders”
“Will the tags be timestamped?”
“Can I see my friend’s tags?”
“Where will I go to manage tags?”
Results
Results
Improved Search
Before
Users could only search for people, not content
After
100% of users said dynamic search would save time and frustration
New Tagging Feature
80%
said they would use tags to organize messages
“I would use the tags on a daily basis. I’m constantly trying to go back and find old messages!”
“I’m always looking for certain pics or videos. This is genius!”
“It would make it easier for me to go back and rewatch”
“I would tag my longer messages to make it easier for a friend to go directly to subjects of interest”
“I would tag places I needed to re-listen before replying!”

Summaries
This concept project was a fun way to practice engaging with users and using their feedback to guide my decisions. I reworked the app structure to simplify the user flow and designed features to help users find messages more easily!
Next, I’d like to use a vibe coding tool to enhance the prototype.
(Or make my own video messaging app in all my spare time!?)
