Wait, is September really over!? I blinked and it’s October 7th.
But I’m sticking to this, dang it. Let’s go back and recap!
Switching it up a bit with some bullets:
At the beginning of September, we had just gotten back from our big vacation to Hawaii and we jumped into some new activities for June. She started weekly swim class at a local rec center through our Parks and Rec. and dance class at OCD. This came at a great time because one of her bestie’s became a big sister (!!) so we’ll be taking a break from our weekly trade-offs for a while!
Work was pretty busy in September, which as usual, spurred ideas for my own business. (Sharing these very soon!)
We passed around a little cold and were reminded how awesome it is that I can schedule work around being a mom and drop everything for some sicky cuddles.
I stuck with my networking/connecting goals and went to TuesdaysTogether for the first time since moving here, and went to the WorkParty book tour event where I saw four people that I knew from two different places and just could not get over it. I know people in SF now!?
We left the city for a day to take my car in for a recall repair and used the opportunity to go to Chickfila since it was “only” 15 minutes away! The other direction from home, but worth it.
Two friends happened to be in SF so I got to hang out with my oldest creative friend and first client from Jacksonville, and one of the first creative friends I met here in SF who moved to Taiwan for a year.
Probably the biggest news from September: Chris’ parents moved to Nevada! They decided just two weeks before their house in Jacksonville closed, drove across the country and stayed with us (with our two cats) for a week until their new home was ready to move in! June was so sad when they left and took the cats with them. But we’re so excited to be driving distance away from grand-hangs… or a June drop off and child-less vacay!
I finally braved the DMV and got CA tags for the car. (Totally bullet point worthy.)
We wrapped the month with a visit to Facebook. Chris’ sister Katie (um.. I mean Katelyn. But we still call her Katie.. ha!) recently started working for FB in DC and came to the west coast for “work” so we got an amazing tour with all the free food. It was awesome and delish and I felt like total crap after… perfect motivation to start Whole30!
For the past few months, I’ve been eating Whole30-ish. I cooked Whole30 meals for dinner so I could prove to myself that I could survive without adding quinoa or rice to our meals… and that Chris would like them so I wouldn’t have to make separate dinners for a month. But, I didn’t hold back when the occasional treat was available and definitely didn’t check labels for added sugar. The last week of Sept. I went a little crazy and “enjoyed” all the things - feeling the need to experience everything I probably won’t even want anymore by the end of my Whole30… which sounds like freedom because my body did not enjoy the things my tastebuds only kind of did.
June’s “eye thing” update
We went to the pediatrician and he thinks her left eye may have a weak muscle causing it to cross, and referred us to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. We have an appointment at the end of October. I’m anxious to know more and start a treatment! It definitely seems to be getting worse over time.
PLANS/GOALS/HOPES FOR october
Whole30! Really excited to finally start. My goal is to finish… ha! And take really good notes so that I maximize what I learn - and what I can share. I have a lot of hopes for the program; I plan to share those in a post just on W30.
I want to take June to a pumpkin patch. Duh, right? But she has talked about the “punkin pouch” since last October so this makes the list. Oh and figure out what she’s going to dress up as. Right now Minnie and monster are the top contenders.
For work, I want to wrap up the projects I have going on and fully dive into one branding client’s project and the new project for The Business Bar. I plan to lean more on my team for any other projects that come in!
Love and no more chocolate,
